Agriculture minister gifts apples in Baabda

BEIRUT: Agriculture Minister Hasan Lakkis distributed apples among ministers and reporters at Baabda Palace Thursday to mark Lebanese Apples Day and promote local produce.

“There are 16,000 hectares of apple trees and 30,000 tons of annual [apple] production...the Lebanese Apples Day is a good chance to promote and sell” local apples, Lakkis said at a news conference, ahead of a Cabinet session.

Lakkis brought numerous red and green apple crates to Baabda Palace to hand out to President Michel Aoun and ministers.

The colorful crates had the slogan: “Your country’s apples, for you and your children.”

Lakkis said his ministry is working on a plan to export Lebanese apples to all countries.

“There is a promotional plan through economic attaches [at embassies] to export our apples and all our products to all countries,” he said.

Following the news conference, Lakkis distributed red and green apples among the reporters.
